Fiber Art Pieces:
My art pieces:
I work mainly in fabrics and textiles using multimedia. I am now showing my new 3-d fabric sculptures!! My fiber art work may be inspired by the subject, a person, the use, found objects or form. Fabrics, papers, lino block prints, nature prints and all manner of embellishments are my materials. Sewing machines, cameras, printers, paints, and threads are my tools. My fabrics comes from many sources: old coffee and flour sacks, primed canvas, hand woven, dyed cloth, custom printed/created cloth, and commercially produced fabric. My art quilts and objects emerge from many creative crevices and muses. Sometimes it is a word or phrase. Other times it is the purpose that determines how the art piece will develop.
I make custom pieces for shows, special gifts for weddings, birthdays, celebrations, babies, etc. My desire is to bring both delight and beauty to form and function with thoughtful, customized art. Click the envelope to email me your ideas and needs,
Cellular and Botanical Fiber Art pieces:
My work in this area was initially inspired by the botanical and cellular photography of Dr. Terry Ashley (terryashleybontancials.com) . I fell in love with her plant cells patterns in her 2011 Botancial Chords photography exhibit at the NC Arboretuem! We are both intrigued with how fabric can become 3-D and has more depth, sometimes than photos on paer. As a botanist, scientist and artist, Terry not only understands plant cells, but captures their beauty under the microscope. Terry and I collaborate to produce custom printed fabrics using actual cell designs for me to use in 2-D and 3-D artwork. I am now printing her layered photos on cloth, embellishing, and sculpting fabric. Being free to combine media opens many doors to unlimited possibilities for enhancing fabric. Customized pieces are my specialy and I love to take a favorite plant, and explore the ways I may represent it in cloth and 3-D.
